Maison de Victor Hugo

Victor Hugo lived in this apartment on the Place des Vosges for 16 years. The museum is now reconstructing the home where he lived and wrote.

Victor Hugo was 30 when he moved here with his wife and children. The writer would stay in this 280m² apartment, on the second floor of the Hôtel de Rohan-Guéménée, Place des Vosges, for more than 16 years. He wrote some of his major works here, including "Ruy Blas" and much of "Les Misérables".

From the living room to the dining room via the bedrooms, visitors can explore the writer's whole world room by room. As well as manuscripts, painting and drawings by Victor Hugo, the collections also include family souvenirs (photographs, furniture and objets d'art) and works paying tribute to him (illustrations of his books, sculptures, etc.). The museum also organizes temporary exhibitions with links to the writer's life.

Children will be able to have fun and learn about what Victor Hugo was like as a grandfather and what mischief his grandchildren got up to through themed tours, while teenagers will be offered a chance to learn about photography or become more familiar with the characters of "Notre Dame de Paris"...
