Monuments and castles in Paris - Grande Mosquée de Paris

Paris Mosque

Plunge into an oriental atmosphere by visiting the prayer rooms and the gracious and peaceful courtyards of this famous Parisian place of worship.

The Paris Mosque is too often confined to its famous Turkish baths and the tea rooms where you can continue relaxing after the steam baths. And yet this place of worship built in Spanish-Moorish style at the heart of the Latin quarter just after the first world war also boasts sumptuous courtyards and remarkable prayer rooms.

Its minaret of 33 metres, tall columns, mosaics, large dome of hand-sculptured cedar wood, immense chandelier and finest carpet… its oriental architecture and ancestral techniques lend this monument a uniquely peaceful atmosphere.

Once in the central courtyard, let yourself be charmed by the Moorish garden with its fountains, waterfalls and marble ponds. Next you can visit the Grand Patio, whose entrance door decorated with Kufic script reproducing verses from the Koran is a gem of Moroccan art.

Lastly take a short walk in the souk where you’ll find earthenware, copper and coloured fabrics. Whether Muslim or not, all visitors are welcome here and given the same attention by guides available to answer all your questions.
