Eglise d’Auvers-sur-Oise

A small church, seen from the back, in a rural landscape. The fields present in Van Gogh's painting (on view a the Musée dOrsay) have given way to a country road. But the facade remains the same, identical to the one painted by the artist, who remains at rest in the adjoining cemetery, next to his brother Théo.  Built in the 12th and 13th-centuries, Notre-Dame d’Auvers bears the traces of Roman architecture, with an ultra-modern organ!

The instrument was built for the prestigious Festival d’Auvers-sur-Oise, where the entire village resonates to the sound of classical music and contemporary creations.

Every Saturday, Sunday and Public Holiday until 31st October 2011, a Transilien SNCF direct train service will run from Paris Gare du Nord to Auvers-sur-Oise.
