Cathédrale de la Résurrection d'Evry

The only cathedral built in France in the 20th century, Mario Botta’s edifice is considered one of the jewels in the crown of contemporary architecture.

The one and only cathedral constructed in the 20th century was designed by famous architect Mario Botta to be a “single storey house, stretching between heaven and earth”. The result is a circular building made using more than 800,000 bricks, topped with lime trees (symbols of life) on its roof.

Although its architecture appears decidedly contemporary, it is inspired by early Christian buildings, which were also round and made of brick.

Behind the cathedral, discover the Paul Delouvrier museum. This cultural centre offers a fine collection of contemporary and antique works (mainly paintings) and liturgical art. Temporary exhibitions are also organized.

After visiting the cathedral and its museum, set off on a “pilgrimage” to the city of Evry. Explore its imposing and eclectic religious buildings, like the Evry-Courcouronnes mosque, one of the largest in Western Europe. The forthcoming Khan-Anh Pagoda will very soon enrich this heritage.
