The Spirit of Bauhaus, the object in question
The musée des Arts décoratifs pays tribute to Bauhaus, movement created in Germany in the XX century and which left its mark in the area of architecture.
Without Bauhaus, the design and architecture of the XX century would not have remained intact. The Bauhaus movement made a positively deep impression via its boldness and originality. ‘Give a new lease of life to buildings through a blend between plastic arts, handicraft and industry’ is the objective of this school of thought that was founded in the city of Weimar in 1919. Some years later, it was moved to Dessau and then to Berlin.
The musée des Arts décoratifs will honor this style that remains unknown in France and which at the time, brought together artists from all walks of life such as painters, architects, artisans, engineers, actors, musicians, photographers and designers. L’esprit du Bauhaus, l’objet en question will review the origin of this movement, what inspired it most (the Moyen Age, Asian arts...) as well as highlight its impact in modern day society.
