For the first time in France, the arts of the peoples along the Sepik river and its tributaries, in the North of Papua New Guinea, are the subject of a major exhibition.

These populations, which have been established along this body of water which is some 1,100 kilometres long since the first millennium before our era, share one thing in common: the major figure of the founding ancestor.

Nearly 230 works (sculptures, pottery, drums or even hooks) have been gathered together and highlighted in a scenography which evokes a traditional village.

Visitors will learn about the various aspects of their ancestral figures, from their public representations to their covert forms. They will discover stunning rituals and the importance of spiritual homes. They will then admire the abundant creativity of these fascinating civilisations.
