René Magritte: The betrayal of Images
A major thematic exhibition on the work of Belgian artist René Magritte at the Centre Pompidou.
Before its use as thetitle of a thematic exhibition dedicated to his work, The Betrayal of images was one of the most famous paintings of René Magritte, painter, sculptor and Belgian artist (1898-1967). Through this painting, and many others, Magritte shows the relationship to the object, its identification and its representation. This is the starting point of the exhibition devoted to this artist at the Centre Pompidou, which questions the misleading representations of the world, likeness and realism of objects.
This original retrospective represents Magritte's work in light of the main five "figures" which he has always referenced in his work: fire, shadow, curtains, words and body split. The retrospective also reveals his old paintings depicting mythological stories of the invention and the definition of painting.
