The heritage of Picasso is a complex question. Testimony of this is this presentation which explores the manner in which contemporary artists revisited his work and sometimes sought to detach themselves from it.

From the tribute of David Hockney, to the The Student engraving which evokes transmission, to the violent Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf ? by Adel Abdessemed, which takes the format of Guernica and the theme of massacre, one discovers the significance of Picasso and his work as a symbolic means. One ends up focussing on the Picasso myth through these artistic evocations, and measuring the extent of the influence of the two major works The Dames of Avignon and Guernica.

It’s a sharp exhibition in which one can / will admire the works of Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, Martin Kippenberger and even Rineke Dijkstra.
