This exhibition will focus on the place of the child in French masterpiece painting.
This event is over. To find another one in Paris Île-de-France, see the datebook.
About Seventy-five works from specific collections and French and foreign prestigious museums are gathered as part of these passionate exhibitions that retrace the history of the status of the child from the XIV to the XX century. One gets to discover the place of cherubims in the paintings of Corot, Daumier, Manet, Cézanne, Monet, Renoir, Bonnard, Matisse, Picasso, Dubuffet…
Its path is chronological. It starts off with the key works of the Cluny museum, a painting attributed to André Beauneveu and Jean de Liège, La Présentation au temple, which illustrates the representation of the god-child predominant in Middle Age iconography. The exposition also underscores the image of the child-king. With Les Lumières, change of status, the child, henceforth is at the centre of political, moral and social concerns. Conversely, children’s work gained prominence at the dawn of the XX century.
