The Louvre houses an exceptional collection of drawings of Hubert Robert (1733-1808). And this is because the artist ended his career as curator of the Central Museum of the Arts, the future Louvre Museum. Cartoonist, painter, engraver, art teacher, garden designer, he distinguished himself in the eighteenth century through his ability to capture the reality of his environment - even the most banal of them - while at the same time, reinventing it.
Through a selection of drawings, engravings, architectural vagaries, monumental paintings, furniture pieces and sketches, the Louvre museum highlights the unique talent of Hubert Robert. This man of the Enlightenment helped create a new vision of landscape and reshapedlandscaping in the second half of the eighteenth century.
