Eclectic [‘Eclectique’] - A XXI century collection
‘Eclectique’ is in line with the musée du quai Branly’s desire to better understand the concept of collectionism and the role of primitive arts.
What is collectionism? What role does a primitive art play in the history of arts? These are the questions that the Museum is striving to answer, expert in African, Asian, Oceanic and American arts and civilization through a variety of exhibitions that it has been organizing since it was established in 2006.
After The invention of primitive arts [‘L’Invention des arts primitifs’] in 2013, the time is ripe for ‘Eclectique’ to focus on the issue. To do this, the event will dwell on Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière, a French business magnate and master collector. About 61 works of arts from African, Oceanic, be they classical or modern, will be exhibited. The personal dimension of arts will also be brought to the fore. This is enough to gather facts to paint the portrait of a XXI century collector.
