Domaine de Madame Elisabeth

Located in central Versailles, the Estate of Madame Elisabeth, also called the ‘Domaine de Montreuil,’ is a unique gem set in the history of France.

Built in the 1770s close to the Palace of Versailles, the Montreuil estate was acquired in 1783 by King Louis XVI who then offered it to his younger sister Elizabeth of France, hence the name ‘Domaine de Madame Elisabeth.’

Unfortunately, the estate was transformed into a factory during the Revolution. The current estate therefore consists of a main building with two floors and two pavilions. There only currently remain three rooms in the apartment of Madame Elisabeth.

The far end of the grounds have been completely redesigned since the 1999 storm, in which there are discovery circuits through the Orangery, the oak grove and the grotto... The Orangery hosts two art and history exhibitions every year. Contemporary sculptures have been installed throughout the grounds, the garden and the Orangery.

A haven of peace and culture.
