Les Bouffes du Nord

The Bouffes du Nord theatre is one of the most beautiful music venues in Paris. It is a listed historical monument since 1993.

The Bouffes du Nord theatre in the Chapelle is on the border of the 10th and the 18th districts in Paris. From the outside, it is unremarkable to look at. From the inside, it is a historical jewel with a round stage and legendary painted walls.

It was built in 1876. It had its ups and downs for half a century, with a succession of managers, several name changes (it was called théâtre de Molière from 1904 to 1914; théâtre des Carrefours in 1945-1946) and a varied musical programme (from classical to music-hall...) until it closed down in 1952 for not complying with standards on safety.

It wasn’t until 1974, under new management by Micheline Rozan and Peter Brook, that Bouffes du Nord regains recognition. Under their leadership, the venue returns to being a place of creation and diffusion as a theatre (with staged performances by Philippe Calvario, Lambert Wilson, Joël Pommerat…) and as a musical venue (Zizi Jeanmaire, Michel Portal, Arthur H…)

Since 2010, this legendary venue has been managed by Olivier Mantéi and Olivier Poubelle, with the same quality standards, image and freedom as their predecessors.
